ISO 24019, "Simultaneous interpreting delivery platforms – Requirements and recommendations," is the most recent of the interpreting standards and responds to the boom in remote simultaneous interpreting. It replaces the earlier ISO/PAS 24019:2020 and goes considerably deeper. The focus is on the software platforms and virtual interpreter consoles through which interpreters work remotely.
It regulates, among other things, platform performance (input and output), the transmission of sound and video to interpreters, the design and functions of interpreter interfaces/soft consoles, and the working environment of speakers and interpreters. It thus complements the classic standards: ISO 20108 and 20109 continue to apply to audio quality and equipment, while ISO 24019 adds requirements for the remote platform itself.
